Text release: http://www.businessinsider.com/anonymous-facebook-2011-8If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill facebook for the sake of your own privacy.Contradictory. If there is freedom of information then we don't need someone to decide who we should or shouldn't share our information with. By killing Facebook, you just killed our right to the freedom of information.
Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called whitehat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and SyriaSounds really scary, but guess what? Unless someone is really out to get you, nothing is going to happen to you. You are merely another person on Earth. No one really gives a shit about you. Sounds harsh, but true. The main reason why people buy data like this from Facebook is to gather demographics. Male/female. Who plays more Facebook games. Their jobs. Their age. You know, things like that.
Everything you do on Facebook stays on Facebook regardless of your "privacy" settings, and deleting your account is impossible, even if you "delete" your account, all your personal info stays on Facebook and can be recovered at any timeSame with pretty much every other account you've made on the Internet. Accounts are rarely deleted from a server unless they really need the space. Guess what? Same with almost everything you've written onto your hard drive too. Nothing is completely erased in this day and age. Don't tell me that there's secure deleting. I know. No one does that with everything they delete.
Changing the privacy settings to make your Facebook account more "private" is also a delusion. What delusion is there? Facebook implemented the privacy settings to keep out other users on the Internet. It was never meant to keep itself out.
Facebook knows more about you than your family.Damned right you are. Unless, you know, you don't really use Facebook much and actually socialize with your family. And for that I applaud you.
You are not safe from them nor from any governmentFor those who know where I'm from, have you seen how the government keeps all the information about you? *Shudder*
One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving youI don't need a babysitter to govern how I use the Internet. Yes, I used the word govern. I use the Internet by my own accord. I understand the risks, I know that I have been willingly giving out information for the past 13 years of my life.
It is a battle for choice and informed consentSeriously, this whole message doesn't make sense to me. By doing this you are removing that choice. And we were always informed. Read Facebook's terms and conditions. And everytime you use a new application on Facebook, read what the page actually says before you click allow. We were always informed.
When a service is "free," it really means they're making money off of you and your informationPretty much. Heard of advertisements and tracking cookies?
