I'm bored. I'm sick of studying from 7am till 7pm for five days a week. I need a break. Approximately 40 more days...

So of course, as you know, and as I've said, the PC gaming scene is rather bleak. Currently now I'm playing a lot of PSP games, and I seriously need a second battery. The PSP has the worst battery life of all the handheld devices out there, and Sony isn't doing anything about it. They'd rather release a new model of a PSP, guess what's new about it? A built-in mircophone, a better screen (more vivid colours and stuff), and more rounded sides. Like anyone's going to be enticed by that.

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

What was I saying? Its trailers galore!

For some reason or another, there's a huge surge in good game trailers today and yesterday. You might even think its a trailer to an upcoming movie.

They'd better continue the Warcraft story in Warcraft 4 instead of continuing everything in World of Warcraft. To be honest, I expected a better opening cinematic from Blizzard. This should easily be one of their worse cinematics. Its kind of... meh? I don't feel impressed, neither am I disgusted. I just saw a comment made on the cinematic, and I really think its very similar to how I feel about it.

"Disappointing. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, Arthas is kickass, but I was hoping for something more....diverse."

Compare this to the cinematics in Warcraft 3. Compare it to the opening cinematics for the original World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade. Heck, even compare it to the Dawn of War II cinematic trailer I posted not long ago. This is bad, compared to them. Like the quote said, yeah, I enjoyed it, its good if you compare it to what the gaming world produces, but its disappointing to see this come from Blizzard. In fact, I had quite good faith that the cinematic would be so good, that I posted it here even before watching it. Disappointing indeed.

Trailers and cinematics arouse interest. All I did to this was stare.

This is going to be a hellish week for me. First there's a GP test on Wednesday from 2:30pm till 6pm, then there's a stupid GP package test on Thursday, and then there's a Geography test on Friday, and a Math test next Monday, which I am not going to bother about. GP package tests are stupid too. Sure, its there to make sure we read the articles given to us, but its crazy. We're supposed to copy and paste sentences from the 40-50 pages of articles into about 4 pages of fill in the blanks in about 40-50 minutes? Piece of crap.
---------------------------------------------------
I'm starting to begin to lean towards the idea that PC gaming is dying. Sure, its the best machine to play on, due to its amazing functionality (I mean, what game can't you play smoothly on a PC?). Need a gamepad? Attach it to the computer. Need a steering wheel? Attach it to the computer. Keyboard? Check. Mouse? Check. Do things other then play? Yep.

But for some reason or another, the PC gaming scene is rather low on good games this year, if you've noticed. Other than games like Diablo III and Starcraft 2, which are games made by Blizzard, who has never made games for a platform other than the PC, there are less than 5 games that we PC gamers can look forward to.

On the other hand, at the PS3 and Xbox 360 scene, especially during the E3, games are popping up everywhere for them. Oh this game is good, that game is good. This is going to be the most highly anticipated game of 2008. What are all these praises for? Console games.

The last time I heard news about a console game? Today. The last time I heard news about a PC game? A few weeks ago.

Back to my Singapore thingy issue.

I've been pointing out many bad points about the Singapore government for the past 2 posts, but honestly, I don't think there is much we can or should do about it. Singapore is the richest country in South East Asia, and we owe it all to LKY. If any member of the opposition party took over, I cannot confidently say that they'll be able to bring Singapore to such levels of development. Sure, they might bring us free speech and some real democracy, but they might not be able to bring us the standard of living we have today.

Besides, LKY is a smart and cunning guy. Its going to take a lot of knock him off the government.

Man, my level of typing had detoriorated. I can't seem to type a sentence without fumbling one way or another. Must be due to the fact that I'm using the computer a lot less than before.

Lol. I know I said I'd stop this rant, but its just so unbearable. This time, I'll rant against my... oh wait, not mine. This time, I'll rant against Singapore. Enough of school stuff.

I still have to hold back a little because I don't want to get thrown into jail for freely speaking in the internet, a place where people are free to say what they want. My language is getting a little coarse for the past few posts, I guess its just better to be who I am, to say what I want. The level of frustration and irritation can be felt by you guys better if I don't hold back my language anyway.

First, time to laugh and say "serve you right" to Singapore for having a low birth rate. Who wants to bring their precious child into hell, when its already enough hell without a kid to take care of? I know I wouldn't. I'd do my kids a favour and let half of them swim in my balls. Get a child, and your monthly expenses magically increases by 1000 bucks, and that's for the first few years only. They grow up, request more things, and their school expenses rise, and the expenses magically rises by another 2000 bucks. Then, who wants to bring their children into a country where grades A and B are the average? Singapore should get a Nobel prize for achieving such crazy standards. Who wants to study in a place where As and Bs can't get you into the local universities?

I'll ask this question straight here. Is Singapore really a democracy? Woo, sounds so political, and I wouldn't really give a damn if not for General Paper. Tell me, what kind of democracy has only one government since the very start of independence? Even my GP teacher said that his Mom doesn't vote because its always the same old government who wins. Sure, I do agree that if any other government takes over other than the PAP, Singapore WILL fall. Since that's the case, why start democratic votes? To give us a false sense of freedom? It isn't useful anyway. Even if people want to be the opposition for votes, they don't have much chance to spread their message. People have been jailed for doing so. Is Singapore trying to suppress all other oppositions? Like I said, Why bother with votes? Also, compared to places like the US, the level of free speech is really disgusting here.

Can't think of anything so rant for now.

I've said this on my MSN nick, and now I'll say it here in black and white, permanently for all to read. Singapore will fall by 2040. And that is the latest date it'll fall by, meaning it can fall anytime before 2040. This will come true, unless another person like LKY appears.

I've post this post and the previous 2 posts into my sidebar, under "my life in Singapore", which I think is really screwed up.

Got off the bus
Saw a girl
Towards each other we walked
Into her eyes I looked
And for a second it met
Hastily, she looked away
And we went past each other...
Will we meet again?
That is a mystery, waiting to be solved.

And yes, for some tards who still think I get chauffeured home everyday, I take the bus home from school everyday now.

Recently I've managed to get hold of the beta key for Battlefield Heroes, thanks to someone in a forum I'm moderating (rawr, I'm a moderator). I think I said something like that in the previous post. Anyway, the blue screen of death showed a file which goes something like this "ati___". That prompted me to update of graphic card drivers.

There's a deep history behind updating my graphic card drivers. In most cases, its just like installing any old thing, what's the big deal? The problem is, I'm using a laptop, and hence I'm using an ATI Mobility card. Apparently, ATI doesn't support cards that are used in Acer systems.

So, I had to find means and ways to try to install the driver (the setup does a check). I managed to bypass the check one day, and I installed it. It worked fine for about 4 months or so, with the exception that I had to "function + F5" sometimes when I started a game, as it may launch with a black screen only. After that, the moment I click the thingy to log in to the system, the screen goes black, and I discover that the resolution changes. Thanks to Launchy, I manage to log out, after which I can then do the "function F5" thing (for some reason it doesn't work at the desktop). All because of that, I decided to downgrade to my previous stable drivers.

So just last week, I updated my drivers again. Fortunately, the problem of the screen turning black on logging in has disappeared. Maybe its because of the Service Pack 3 update. The screen still remains black when launching a game though.

Right. After that stupid story, I can finally share about the recent games I've been playing, Battlefield Heroes and Portal.

Well yeah, Battlefield Heroes is a pain in the ass to get started. Anyway, the level of customization you can do for your character is great. There's hats, necklaces, earrings, tops, a top under the top, gloves, bottoms, shoes. Can't remember if there's more. And there's at least 3 each for each of these categories. Then there's at least 5 different types of guns, depending on which class you've picked. Soldier, the all-rounded class, gunner, the heavy weapons guy, and commando, the stealthy sniper.

This FPS game gives all FPSes out there a nice twist to the game. Your character can level up, and it can use abilities. You can heal yourself with these abilities, increase your defense, absorb explosions and so on. As its only in the closed beta phase, there's only 2 maps. And as seen in the similarity of the title, the game has very similar game mechanics with Battlefield 2.

Portal was a game I've always been dying to play, simply because of the phrase "the cake is a lie". I've always wanted to know the story behind it, and what it means. For the Half-Life 2 games, I can only play them after my drivers are updated. Portal is a pretty interesting game. It starts out as a simple, happy game, with cake promised as the prize at the end. It slowly turns into some horror/thriller game with warning signs, and the word "help" is often seen lying around, written in blood. At the end, when you advance to get your cake, you slowly move into a pit of fire. Then you got to escape, and things like that. Gets pretty freaky at this part. There are no horror scenes, its just the whole feel that makes it freaky.

Supposed to go for the 3D animation lesson today, but when I went to check out the computer lab, the teacher was alone in the room... How sad. Anyway, I'm starting to find the lessons a little boring. Besides, we're guided step by step, with no real idea what we're doing. The knowledge will be lost in less than a week (if you're good, a month). Later I saw someone I know, who attends the lesson , head towards the lab. Unfortunately he always leaves halfway, so good luck to the teacher inside.
