Its that time again, where I bring you updates on the games I've been playing, and my progress so far.
In my previous Fallout 3 update, I said that I was just going to play Mass Effect and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Well, plans change, and I'm adding Modern Warfare 1 and 2 to that list. I'll most likely have to add another 1 or 2 more games to that list again as well, and I'm considering either Mass Effect 2 or Gears of War. I'm leaning more towards Gears of War because its better to play an entirely new game since it'll give me a wider scope of the games out there.
-----------------------------------------------
Mass Effect is created by the same people who brought us Dragon Age: Origins, so the same high standards are present in both games. However, the player's speech is voiced in Mass Effect, and chat isn't "what you see is what you get". Well what do I mean by this? In Dragon Age: Origins, if you choose to say something, then that's it. But in Mass Effect, you might choose to say "are you sure?", but once chosen the player will start to say something much longer and more developed, usually of the same meaning of what you chose to say. Notice I said usually. Sometimes I picked something, but the player decided to say something I wouldn't want to have picked.
Anyway, I chose to play as a ruthless spaceborn infiltrator. Ruthless spaceborn is just the character personality that I picked, and it hardly affects the game later on. This problem kind of exists in Dragon Age: Origins as well - your personality makes little difference as the game develops.
Picking infiltrator to be my class was a great choice. Most areas in the game are big enough for sniping to be effective, so that really made my life easy. Besides, its always much easier when you can snipe some idiot who doesn't want to come out of cover. I almost wanted to pick a biotic. Biotics use force, similar to the "force" in Star Wars. Push, pull, shield, blah blah.
I tried to get some downloadable content (DLC) for Mass Effect, but for some reason, after installing it, it didn't seem to work. The game said it doesn't not have any DLC installed. I tried to patch the game next, and it said Mass Effect wasn't installed. Er okay. Whatever. I got the Return to Ostagar DLC for Dragon Age: Origins though. You get to get the late King Cailan's armour. And Duncan's daggers. And you can choose to leave Cailan rotting at Ostagar. Lol! Oops, spoilers.
-----------------------------------------------
I played Modern Warfare 1 next. Modern Warfare is what you'd expect from any Call of Duty game. Immersive, epic, and the feeling that you're in the game. I've never been disappointed by any Call of Duty game, and if Infinity Ward keeps this up, I don't think I'll ever will.
One of my favourite missions in Modern Warfare is the one where you play as Captain Price when he was a Lieutenant. You're a two man team with Captain Macmillon, and you're wearing this funny ghillie suits. Its really funny especially when you're supposed to run from cover to cover in a limited amount of time, because you look some like sort of swamp monster running around. ahahaha!
I'm also given many choices to whether I want to get around enemies stealthily, or to take them down stealthily. Its kind of annoying, because, Captain Macmillon also has a sniper rifle, and when there are two guards standing in front of me, I have to take them down both by myself without alerting one of the guards. Why can't we just shoot them both at the same time like in Modern Warfare 2?
Anyway, there was this part where you had to snipe the target from a really long distance, so you had to take into account the wind speed and direction, as well as the distance to target. Well I hit the target's shoulder, so his arm flew off. Pity so few games have such sniping circumstances.
The ending was kind of funny too. Did they really have to repeat the same situation in Modern Warfare 2 again? You and Price are badly injured, and you somehow manage to kill the enemies in an epic sort of way. Then help arrives. Meh. (I haven't played MW2 yet by the way. I've seen all I know about it from Xfire Live Stream.)

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a surprising one for me. I've always had the idea that games made out of movies/books/etc are just plain horrible, so I'd never imagine this game to be that good. To give you the best idea of what it plays like, I'd say its like Assassin's Creed in a future timeline.
Batarangs, explosive gel and grappling hooks are just a few things that Batman has in his arsenal. Batman isn't as invulnerable as you'd want him to be, so you have to be careful who you want to pick a fight with, especially if they're armed or a super mutant. What's really good about this game is the fighting system. To be honest, its one of the best melee fighting systems I've seen so far. It's dynamic and fluid, so fighting never seems to be out of place or broken in some way. Well I can't really explain it properly. You have to try it or watch it. I'll put a video up for you to watch.
I can't seem to think of much to say about the game, even though it never has a rating below 9/10. I'll just say what the story is. Basically, you've caught Joker and brought him into Arkham Asylum, and things go horribly wrong. Joker has been planning to be caught for a really long time, and now, he's put his plan into action. He has got the help of certain people, and he's looking for the formula to make a toxin which turns people into large mutants with super strength. So, you're off to stop Joker, who leaves many clues and continuously goads you to try to stop him.
Okay, first video is how fighting is like, and second video is what a day in the game is like.
